Welcome to Maison Villebard. Our 200+ year old farmhouse is nestled in its own grounds of over an acre set in a very quiet area of rural France in the Limousin. The area boasts many lakes and rivers and everywhere there are hedges, copses of trees and Limousin cattle and sheep. In our orchard/meadow we have apples, hazelnuts, peaches, pears and a vine (but not for wine making!) Our guest accommodation comprises of a beautifully appointed first floor apartment (or gite) available to book for a self-catering holiday. Please note that access is only by an external staircase, so it may not be suitable for some disabled visitors. The gite has a private entrance and is fully fitted with a modern kitchen/diner, shower room and two bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. The living room area is light and airy with exposed beams throughout. There is also a quiet corner with a comfy armchair and a huge library of paperbacks for you to borrow! The lounge has a TV and basic Sky box plus a music centre. We supply everything you may need for your stay and this includes all the bedding, hand and bath towels, shampoo and shower gels within the price. Guests will find a ’welcome pack’ which includes tea, coffee (filtered and instant), sugar and fresh milk (i.e. not longlife). We are happy to pick up some fresh foodstuffs for your arrival, if ordered in advance. There is free WiFi available. See our photos for more details.
We have secure parking, covered for cars and motorcycles, and a well-equipped workshop for minor repairs. We are both keen bikers, having ridden for many years and have started to explore the region for the best roads and cafes! We can recommend local restaurants and visitor attractions and know where to get fuel and food locally! Please note that we cannot accept card payments.
We are located about 45 minutes north-west of the capital, Limoges, a region famed for exquisite porcelain china production, and also for beautiful leather glove manufacture (mostly supplied to the designer trade) plus a lot of history to explore - including the stories of Richard the Lionheart and the Black Prince, who were both Dukes of Aquitaine in the distance past.
We are about an hour from the TGV station at Angouleme which is on the Lille/Paris to Bordeaux line, linking with Eurostar in Lille. Limoges Airport is half an hour away with regular flights from Stansted, East Midlands and Southampton to name a few, but please note that you will need to hire a car when you are here as there are no buses! The autoroute road link to the A20 is less than hour’s drive away (30 miles). We are a couple of hours from Bordeaux and the coast with La Rochelle and Ile de Rey are about the same distance. For those who want to drive or ride from the UK, we can help advise you on the best routes to consider, including Channel crossings.
We are just 1.5kms north of the village of Bussiere Boffy (D62), and half-way between Bellac to the east and Confolens to the west (D951) and St. Junien to the south, all with excellent shopping facilities! But Bussiere Boffy boasts a very early church with a leaning, twisted spire, a café/bar with a grocer’s store which also sells bread and pastries plus a very helpful post office. We are just south of the Massif Central and on the northern edge of the Perigord National Forest and there are some terrific roads for those who enjoy bend swinging! (And we might even join you!) Local towns such as St. Junien, Bellac and Confolens have good shops, markets and restaurants, and we can recommend more local restaurants for lunches or evening meals.
Please email us or check out our website www.maisonvillebard.com for lots more local information and our very best rates.
